Protecting yourself and your friends and family from fraud can be as easy as disposing safely of documents that could be used for identity theft. Encompass Credit Union is helping you with that by hosting a shredding day, May 29, 2019 in Wainwright, AB.
The Spring Shredding Day will be held in the Wainwright Encompass Credit Union branch parking lot. From 10:30am to 2:30pm, the shredding truck will be available for people to walk up with their shredding and put it directly into the shredder. At no time will Encompass be taking custody of anyone’s personal material. You will not be able to drop it off, you will be required to dump it in the truck yourself for security purposes. The shredding is free.
Shredding personal documents, credit card receipts, bank statements, seven year old tax returns and things that could help scammers attempt to steal your identity is the perfect material to have shredded.
Make sure you bring all materials in sturdy, easily transportable bags or boxes. Paper with staples and small paper clips are fine, but heavy cardboard or large plastic clips or coils are not permitted. This will be a walk-up service so you may have to wait in line depending on how busy it is.
During the event in the Wainwright branch parking lot, from 11:30am to 1:30pm, the local competition barbecue team, Q-Up will be serving “shredded BBQ pork” sandwiches for $6 each, with proceeds helping them to finance future competitions.
The Encompass team will be on hand to hand out some fraud prevention material and to assist people to set up Alerts on their Internet Banking using their smartphones, which is a great way to help with fraud prevention.
A draw for a Traegar Ranger portable grill as well as some personal shredders will be available, in partnership with Armstrong’s Clothing and Sports. Come for the shredding, brad a shredded pork sammy and help protect yourself and your friends and family.
And remember, if you’re a victim of fraud, report it to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.
